How to identify printmaking processes in early modern printed books

The Making Visible project team were delighted to welcome Dr Ad Stijnman, author of the definitive history of engraving techniques Engraving and Etching 1400-2000. A History of the Development of Manual Intaglio Printmaking Processes, London 2012, as well as a practicing printmaker, who gave a master class on engraving techniques. The class were able to inspect the rare books from the Whipple collection and the Wren Library to identify print-making processes and to observe the differences between woodcuts, engravings and etchings.
